A clogged drain is not just a nuisance; it is a frustrating problem that requires immediate attention. Whether it is a slow kitchen sink drain or a backed-up toilet, most people opt for traditional cleaning products. Although store-bought products offer quick and easy solutions, they are short-lived and rarely address the root cause of the problem. At Express Plumbing & Rooter, we understand the satisfaction of resolving drainage and sewer line issues by yourself, especially during emergencies. However, working with our trained plumbing service team gives you access to specialized equipment and proven techniques like hydro jetting. Let’s delve into both cleaning methods to help you make informed decisions.
Chemical cleaners are designed to break down and dissolve blockages. However, these products consist of harsh ingredients that can cause more damage than good when overused. Chemical cleaners are ideal for small clogs, but they should be used with caution. This is particularly important for severe blockages, which may require more effective solutions.
Plumbers and industry professionals recommend regular cleaning methods like plunging or snaking before resorting to chemical cleaners. In the case of tougher clogs, professional intervention may be the best option. Before flushing chemicals down the drain, schedule an inspection with a plumbing service provider to determine the best course of action.
As mentioned, store-bought cleaners use powerful chemicals to break down clogs. This means that these products are effective in clearing simple clogs and restoring flow quickly without professional help. Additionally, chemical drain cleaners are readily available at local stores, making them a convenient option for homeowners.
One of the main drawbacks of using chemical cleaners is the potential risk of damage they pose, especially to older pipes. The harsh ingredients manufacturers use can corrode the interior lining, increasing the risk of leaks, breaks, and costly repiping. Furthermore, prolonged use can negatively impact the environment.
Hydro jetting is an innovative drain cleaning technique that uses pressurized water to clear blockages. Unlike chemical products, hydro jetting should be left to professionals for precision and safety. A trained plumber conducts a thorough video camera inspection before any work can start, ensuring they understand the condition of your system. This approach is particularly important for older plumbing systems, as water pressure is adjusted to prevent damage without compromising effectiveness.
If you have a clogged drain, it is a good idea to let a plumbing service provider handle the heavy lifting for long-term results. The high-pressure water can reach 5,000 psi, removing stubborn blockages, such as grease, tree roots, and non-biodegradable buildup. Plumbing service companies often recommend high-pressure water cleaning as a preventive measure to maintain problem-free systems all year round.
Hydro jetting offers numerous advantages, such as effectively clearing stubborn blockages and providing long-lasting solutions. Also, this technique uses water, which is safe for your plumbing system and the environment. Whether it is tree roots or sediment buildup, hydro jetting can scour the entire interior lining to give you a clean slate.
Despite these benefits, pressurized water also poses a few disadvantages. If it is improperly executed, hydro jetting can cause serious damage that is more expensive to fix than chemical cleaners. In addition, hydro jetting equipment is invasive and can easily wreck older systems. By hiring a plumbing service to handle the drain cleaning process, you can avoid these issues and ensure the job is done right the first time.
Both chemical drain cleaners and hydro jetting have their benefits and drawbacks. If you are looking for a safer solution, contact Express Plumbing & Rooter for advice. We engage with you throughout the process, ensuring you make the right choice for your needs.
